Guide to Purchasing 100% Grass Fed Beef in Bulk

Looking to place a bulk order of meat from Mary’s Land Farm? We’d be happy to work with you and help you find what you’re looking for! We offer different types of discounts for bulk beef. Outlined below are the best ways to buy meat in bulk from us.

1) MEAT BOXES: Order on our online website. There are a variety of options here for a multitude of our meats. The boxes include popular cuts, ground products, sausages, and roasts. A large sampler box is a great way to start if you’d like to test a number of cuts. The discounts on most of these boxes are about 10% on each item. This is a great starting point if you’re just looking at starting small.

You can find information about these here: https://shop.maryslandfarm.com/meat/mlf-meat-boxes

2) LARGE ORDERS of GROUND BEEF:  To order 50 lbs. or more of ground beef, please message luis@mary.farm.

3) PURCHASE A WHOLE, HALF, OR QUARTER COW: To get the best discounts, we offer two types of whole, half and quarter cow ordering options.

  1. The first option is to place an order and we pull together an equivalent amount of meat as the average whole, half, or quarter cow would yield. This is contingent on our inventory. It’s a way to get the meat quickly.
  2. The second option is to pre-order a whole or part of a cow, place a deposit, and wait for our next slaughter to pick up the meat. The waiting period after slaughter is about a month until the meat is ready for pickup. Please prepare to pay with a check made out to Savory Farms LLC. The deposit for a preorder cow is 40% of the estimated cost.

Both options include the cost of the carcass and the butcher. The payment is for the true yield of steaks, roasts, ground, and other items that you will be able to consume. Payment is not according to the hanging weight since that would include the customer having to pay for the bones and fat that are discarded when the carcass is cut into parts.

Common Questions:

1) How much beef does a typical family go through per year?

  • Whole Cow – Feeds a family of 4-5 people for 1 year.
  • Half Cow – Feeds a family of 4-5 people for 6 months.
  • General rule of thumb is to plan for 1/2 lb of boneless meat per adult and 1/4 lb per child per meal.

2) How much freezer space should I prepare?

  • 1 cubic foot for every 20-30lbs of meat.
  • So that comes to: Whole Cow 15 cu.ft., Half Cow 7 cu.ft., Quarter Cow- 4 cu.ft.
  1. What type of freezer do I need?
  • Chest Freezer: The way to go. Pros: It stays cold when opening the freezer and has a very large carrying capacity. Cons: It can be difficult to sort through product when looking for something specific.
  • Upright Freezer: Pro’s: Great for organization. Cons: It lets cold air out when the door is opened. Might not fit as much as a chest freezer
  • Fridge/Freezer: Not enough room to store a whole or half of a cow. May fit a quarter cow.
  1. What will it look like in my car? Do I have enough room?
